5/20/05: A new U19 Bethesda team, the United, was formed to compete in the 2005 Maryland State Cup and was coached by Dave Nesbitt. It was composed of 9 recent players from the Rowdies plus 4 from the Bethesda Strikers, 1 from the Bethesda Dragons, 1 from the Frederick Sting and 2 from the Olney MD United. The players were: Danielle Devereux (Maryland), Jen Dunbar (Air Force Academy), Ali Feldman (George Mason), EJ Goldman (Delaware), Melissa Hornfeck (Monroe College), Kara Lewis (Cornell), Christina Mann (NC State), Shelley McDuff (Maryland), Amy Morrison (UMBC), Chrissy Parks (East Tennessee State), Ali Reinhart (Towson), Leslie Schulz (Bucknell), Jackie Stromberg (Cornell), Kathleen Vistica (Miami of Ohio), Melissa Whitley (Princeton), Jessica Young (UMBC), and Rachel Young (Virginia Tech).
6/5/05: United defeated the Damascus Spirit of Freedom 5-1 in the U-19 semifinal.
6/12/05: United defeated the Freedom Vipers 2-1 in the U-19 state championship.
7/3/05:The United defeated Rhode Island #2 (Bruno United) 7-0 and Pennsylvania West (Century V) 6-1 to grab the wild card semi-final spot after losing a hard-fought game to Eastern New York (Albertson Fury) 0-1.
7/4/05:The United played a tough Conecticut United team, losing 1-2. The United can take pride in being the first and only Maryland '85/'86 team to win a bronze medal at the Regionals. See pictures here. Good luck ladies upon your return to college.

The Bethesda Rowdies (girls born on or after Aug. 1, 1985) won 3 Maryland State Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and were finalists in 2003 and 2004. The Rowdies were coached by Julian Etches from U12 to U17. You can read more about our coaches below.

About our coaches:

Julian Etches:
Mr. Etches retired from coaching after 20 years to focus more on his family and business. Mr. Etches coached the Rowdies from U-12 through U-17 and guided them to 3 (U14-16) state championships. He was associated with winning teams his entire soccer career. He captained 2 teams in National youth finals, winning the McGuire Cup (U-19 Boys Championship) with the Montgomery United Ponies. Mr. Etches had extensive Olympic Development Program (ODP) experience as a regional player and coach. He coached league champion high school teams and was voted 1996 All-County girls soccer "Coach of the Year." He guided the Bethesda Broncos to their last two Maryland State Cup Championships and was the 1998-9 Bethesda Soccer Club Girls "Coach of the Year.

Michelle Salmon:
Michelle Salmon, a former All-American at Maryland, coached the Rowdies at U-18. She served as UMBC's assistant coach in 1999 before being appointed head coach prior to the 2000 season.
