The 1969 Guardians of the Galaxy team is the original 31st-century team from an alternate timeline. The Guardians first appear in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (January 1969). The initial roster consisted of Vance Astrovik (Major Victory), Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta. Created, in large part, by Starhawk (Stakar Ogord). Later members included Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki. The 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy team is the modern version of the team formed in the aftermath of Annihilation: Conquest. These Guardians first appeared in Annihilation: Conquest #6 (June 2008), but not officially called the Guardians of the Galaxy. One could argue that these Guardians of the Galaxy actually originated in Annihilation: Conquest #2 (February 2008) when Peter Quill and Rocket Raccoon selected members for their elite force, including Mantis and Groot. But the first formal presentation of this named group was in the Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (July 2008). This GotG consisted of Star-Lord (Peter Quill), Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Phyla-Vell (now as Quasar), Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, and Adam Warlock. Members came and went, including Bug, Black Flag and Starhawk. The New Guard of the Guardians of the Galaxy consists of Kitty Pryde, Thing, Drax, Venom, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and later Star-Lord and Gamora. This Guardians team first appeared in "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 4 #1 (October 2015). Initial roster of Rocket Raccoon, Kitty Pryde, Thing, Drax the Destroyer, Agent Venom and Groot. However, Star-Lord and Gamora eventually re-joined the team, and so did Angela.
